Ears, Tongues & Tails is a hands-on, up close experience to enlighten beginners and deepen the knowledge of those wanting to learn more from horses. The focus is on “listen and feel”. Safety for you and the horse is paramount.
We tailor to your level of comfort, so this Experience may be all ground work or include a short ride – your choice.
Groups should allot ~ 2 hours for a full Ears, Tongues & Tails Experience.
Check our Events Calendar or call to request other dates or times.
Practice in our Hobby Horse Room
Our short rides include a pre-ride session in our hobby horse room where you will see yourself and get comfortable sitting properly in the saddle on our most well-behaved horse!
At Sky Haven, horses are our priority because when they feel safe, you are safe. You will find that our horses are wise and grounded companions who will provide you with the insight you seek.
Learn Horse Whispering
Learn the unwritten horsemanship basics including insights unrecognized or overlooked in traditional riding programs. You will learn and practice how to speak and understand horse language, the basics of horse energy and touch as well as grooming, tacking up, and for those interested, personalized direction about how you can ride in a balanced and safe manner.
This experience goes into horse whispering, with more in-depth learning that includes- understanding horse language and horse relaxation techniques (TTouch, aromatherapy, and equine massage/stretching)
The whole experience is packed with tips, tricks and opportunities for learning and the best part, picture taking! Treats for your horse included. This is suitable for first time participants or those who have already tried riding and are ready for more.

Upon arriving at Sky Haven, 184 Ski Hill Rd. Bethany, park in the barn driveway and enter the double barn doors at either side of the barn. Erica will greet you and show you where the washroom is located and the tack room.
Erica will take you to the tack room where you will be fitted with your helmets and you will be given waivers to sign for each person in your group.
In the barn aisle Erica will cover some of the safety rules. One of the most important basics of Erica’s rules is that we put the horse first in order to keep us safe. If your horse is relaxed and confident then your safety is ensured.
Once in the barn again your horse will be put in the cross ties and you will learn how to greet the horse without intimidating or crossing boundaries. This basic respect builds rapport from the ground u
Everyone will be hands on in this stage in which Erica will cover the steps and reasons for grooming and the horse’s body language. She will cover various therapeutic techniques such as TTouch, massage, aromatherapy. Touch is used to make the horse feel safe and calm in the moment.
Next you will learn how to tack up.
Then each participant will have the chance to learn how to balance and sit correctly in a saddle in our hobby horse room on our “fake” horse. This gives you a chance to situate your body without the distraction of the live horse and you will be better able to be safe and balanced when you mount your horse.
Your group will enter the arena and each of you will have a chance for a short ride (or an opportunity to lunge the horse*), if you so choose. You will learn how to mount safely, how to ask the horse to move, stop and turn. You will learn how to balance in a challenging situation and how to trust the horse. Pictures may be taken at this time.
Back in the barn you will help to untack the horse and do a final grooming and understand the purpose of this grooming. It is a treat for the horse and it is important for health. You will be given treats to feed the horse.
After the mutual appreciation there will be a group picture taken which will be sent to you by Erica.
